"Oh please." said Karen as she peered over Maxine's shoulder to read the story.
Maxine quickly shut off her laptop. "Kar, you know it's bad luck to peak at a story while it is being created." Karen shrugged her shoulders and went back to the other room. Maxine was quite moody when it came to writing stories, so it was best to leave her alone.
Still, Karen was curious about Melinda and where or not she went to the party. Karen waited until Maxine took a bathroom break. Karen snuck into the room and went over to the laptop. Things did not go well for Melinda, who went to the party. She was turned away at the door. Her name was not on the list. Karen sniffed. "Poor Melinda." A cough startled Karen who turn to faced Maxine.
"What are you doing?"
"Who, me?" replied Karen.
"I can't write if there's an audience."
"I know, it's just I was curious about Melinda."
"Melinda is a make-up character."
"True, but did you have to make her so sad?"
"What does it matter to you about Melinda's rejection?"
" She reminds me of me."
Maxine flushed with embarrassment. "Nobody invited me to their parties. Oh, sure, I hear them laughing as they make their plans and I could hear the laughter weeks after the party was over. If I tried to join the laughter, I was shot down with that stare. I was hoping that Melinda was able to get thru the door." Maxine hugged her friend, Karen, who ran to the bathroom
Suddenly, an idea came to Maxine as she sat down in front of her laptop and started typing away. Karen was right. It was not fair that Melinda was shot down for being Melinda. She wrote, "Melinda sat down on the corner. There was no mistake-she was not invited to the party. "If I had my own party." Melinda thought." There will be no rejection at the doors."
Maxine stopped typing. That was it. "Karen, come quickly."
Karen came "I thought it was bad luck for me to be in the room while your mind is creating. " "I thought you wanted to know what is going on with Melinda."
Karen smiled "Tell me."
"Melinda is having a party."
"When?"
"Right now."
"How can she pulled it off."
"Simple, she's going to knock on some doors and invite people over. "
"Maybe she can called some people as well.” suggested Karen.
"Okay. See if you like this."
Maxine wrote down about Melinda's last minute party plans and how well it went off.
"Kar, you are going to like this last past."
Karen read Melinda was talking with her cousin when the doorbell rang. It was her- the one who didn't invite Melinda to the party.
"Talk about timing." said Karen, as Maxine urged her to go on reading.
"I heard there was a party going on." "A small one with some family and friends, why don't you come in." said Melinda as she led the uninvited guest thru the door.
"She let her in?"
"Yup."
"No rejections at the doors."
"Yup."
"But why?"
"Melinda knew all about slamming doors in people's faces. It happened to her all her life, but she rather opened doors then shutting them."
Karen couldn't agree more
