To ignore them courts disaster
And yet in life we often see
The basics treated flippantly
As men seek to progress faster.
To build a stable house we need
Foundations dug down deeply
But often in the quest for speed
Or vain ambition to succeed
Men regard the basics cheaply.
To learn to walk we first must crawl,
Fact readily conceded,
And though we stagger, trip and fall
And our first steps are modest, small,
The result shows these were needed.
Throughout our life these will repeat
In countless circumstances,
It takes a fall to find your feet,
Sometimes what seems like sad defeat
Can lead to great advances.
If in our daily life it’s so
That the basics always matter
Then where our soul and spirit go
Is primal truth we need to know,
To be zealously sought after.
God’s given us His holy Word
A stable firm foundation
Revealed in Jesus Christ the Lord
Who came to lead us Heavenward—
From the stable to salvation.
