New Testament Scripture (2) describes His voice to be similar to a roll of thunder, great rushing waters, or a loud trumpet blast.
Most of us have no trouble attributing such a powerful and loud voice to the God of the universe.
But there are other times when God speaks with a whisper with the volume so low that it can only heard with the ears of a (3) searching soul.
God’s voice will not always be found where one might expect to find it.
Elijah didn’t find it in a strong wind, an earthquake, or in a raging fire. He found it in the midst of a gentle breeze (4).
When a message is intended for general broadcast, the communicator will raise his or her voice to a level necessary to be heard by everyone present.
But when the message is intended for a small group or individual recipient, it will be delivered with the necessary level of volume to only be heard by the intended recipient.
Some of the most personal and intimate communications are whispered in the ears of the recipient.
In order to hear the whispers from God, one must spend regular time away from the hustle and the bustle of everyday life (5) that competes for the focus of our attention.
Only those who are in an intimately close fellowship with the Lord will be able to hear His whispered messages.
Every born-again believer is in an eternally secure (6) relationship with the Lord, but not all born-again believers embrace or experience an intimate walk in fellowship with the Lord during the course of their post salvation spiritual life, here on Earth.
Scripture records numerous accounts in which God or divine messengers have spoken audibly to individuals and groups. This, however, is the exception and not the rule.
More blessed (worthy to be praised) are the ones who believe without the need for tangible or experiential evidence (7).
Only those who seek the Lord with all his or her heart will hear the whispered voice of the Lord.
It’s not that He only speaks to some of His children more than others. He speaks to all of us, but not all of us choose to listen, and not all of us who listen choose to apply what we hear.
Until one is born again, the ONLY message that he or she will hear (from God) is the call to salvation when presented with the unadulterated Gospel Message.
I say “from God” because the human environment is flooded with all kinds of misleading information from every means available to the devil and the Eph. 6: 12 forces of evil.
Among these available means are the religious traditions (8) made by men. Such things appeal to the human rationalization of the fallen nature in Man.
This fallen nature is inherently hostile (9) towards God and the things of God.
Once (if) born again, the ministry of God the Holy Spirit shifts from the pre-salvation mode to the post salvation mode.
The post-salvation mode begins with the call to the life of discipleship, and involves a life-long process of learning (10) and applying (11) the Word of God to all that we think, say, and do.
God is not the only one who whispers into the ears of the human soul.
The devil, and or those who do his bidding, do so on a on-going basis.
Focusing for only one hour out of 168 hours a week on the teaching of the Word of God gives the devil a lot of time to launch his relentless counterattacks.
Even in our hours of sleep, our subconscious minds process, and make a part of our soul structure, both the good and the evil information that we choose to listen to (12), especially during the preceding hours of consciousness.
The fallen nature within us is inherently receptive to what the devil and his world have to say.
Only through a close-knit filter of an edified soul structure (13) and frequent (14) inspections, can the devil’s whisperings (15) be kept out of our daily thoughts that impact our decision-making processes.
At the end of the day (life), we are what we think (16).
