There have been many times I have disregarded God’s will and followed my own. When I do not seek Godly counsel or pray about a particular situation a sea of chaos appears. The more I attempt to fix the situation the worst things get. When I am outside of God‘s will, things fall apart and I feel alone. Fortunately, God did not, has not and will not abandoned me as it says in Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Just as the faith of the apostles was tested and Peter’s faith was tested in his denial my faith is tested many times throughout the day. Where do I stand? Do I go my own way or do I surrender to Jesus? Getting out of God’s will is a slow death that separates me from my Father. The more I am out of his will the more alone I am.
When Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane He asked the Father three times, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” Matt. 26:39,42,44. Jesus knew His mission of taking on the sins of the world. Doing this would fulfill the scriptures and His Father’s will. Jesus was asking to have the cup of abandonment by the Father to be lifted from Him. Jesus was separated from the favor and the fellowship with the Father on the cross. He was bearing the sins of His people and therefore enduring God’s wrath.
Jesus knew the Father was always present. Jesus says in John 8:29, “And he who sent Me is with Me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that please Him.” Jesus was always in God’s will. That’s why it was so hard for Him to be separated from the Father. Every act Jesus did was for the glory of God.
This is unconditional love. The way Jesus lived His life. God’s will for us is to abide in Him through Jesus Christ. Jesus says in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Abiding in Christ we are never alone. Being alone is our choice not God’s choice.
