TITLE: The Feast | Previous Challenge Entry

Josh Lane lowered his newspaper and glanced at his twelve-year-old grandson flopped on the couch next to him. Sensing that this issue was not going to go away without further discussion, he folded the newspaper and answered, “Yes Marty, God is in control and he has given us information about the future.”
“But how does he know, Grandpa, can he show us the future?”
“Let me explain it this way; I know you have many jig-saw puzzles, what’s the biggest one you’ve ever built?”
“I finished a two thousand piece puzzle last week—that took me ages.”
“Did you have a picture on the box to guide you?”
“Yeah, sure, couldn’t do it without the picture on the box.”
Josh smiled at his grandson. “Life seems to us like a big puzzle, but God has a finished picture; and he’s given it to us so that we can also see the final picture. It’s called the bible.”
Marty chuckled. “Must be a huge puzzle, how many pieces has it got?”
“Seven thousand,” answered Josh, “one for each year that mankind will be on the earth.”
“How do you work that out, Grandpa?” Marty was now sitting upright on the couch.
“Well, you’ve heard of Adam and Eve, they were the first people ever created. Then two thousand years later Abraham and his family lived on earth. I know you’ve learned about them. And after another two thousand years Jesus was born, and he died for our sins.”
Marty was quick to catch on. “So that used up four thousand pieces of God’s puzzle—but what about the next three thousand pieces; how do they fit into the picture? ”
“Well, Jesus was crucified two thousand years ago, so at the moment we are pretty close to the end of six thousand years. Nobody knows exactly how long before the final thousand years will start, but the picture given us in the bible shows that the final thousand years will be the best ever. There will be peace on earth, with no sickness whatsoever.”
“So then we can go on holiday again—no more being locked up at home.” Marty beamed. “Maybe it will start tomorrow, is that possible, Grandpa?”
“Not exactly, son. The big picture in the bible shows that there will be a time of terrible trouble on the earth; things will get really bad and many people are going to die.” Seeing Marty’s face cloud over Josh hastily added, “But we are not going to go through this terrible time on earth.”
“Will God save us out of it? How will he do this?”
“He will come back and take all the people that love him up to heaven. I know you’ll enjoy heaven because one of the puzzle pieces has a picture of a great feast with lots of good food.”
“And chocolate cake, I hope!” Marty was now getting into the swing of things.
“I’m sure there will be chocolate cake, and other good things that you can’t even imagine.”
“Okay, I’m sold on this, Grandpa, will it happen soon?”
“As I said, nobody except God knows exactly when, but if we look at the big picture in the bible it sure seems pretty close. Mankind has already had six of the seven thousand years on earth, and we will have the big feast in heaven before the final thousand years on earth begins. So it could be anytime now. A further important sign happened when I was a small boy. Israel became a nation again after two thousand years and very recently our president recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
“I remember that, Grandpa, our Sunday school teacher explained it to us. She said it was a very important thing to happen.”
“It sure was, and it also indicates that our feast is not far away.”
“Will the virus end when we go up to the feast?”
“Well, you certainly won’t have to wear a mask when you eat your chocolate cake at the feast with Jesus. But as I said, things back on earth will be pretty tough for a while. Are you ready to go to the feast?”
Upon receiving no reply Josh glanced at his grandson and saw that he was on his knees beside the couch. With a smile he thought to himself: Reckon I’ll take a small piece of chocolate cake myself.
