They are in their comfort zone
Where every person matters
Personalities are grown
In the place that’s known as home.
Where mess just means there’s action
There’s some living getting done,
That space is being availed of
For activities and fun—
To be sorted out by Mum.
While, at the dining table
Many lifelong views are born
With Dad as mediator
To instruct and scold and warn—
By his wisdom well informed.
Where we first learned of Jesus
And God’s word was freely read
Where faith was seen in action
We all thrived on daily bread—
Staple food in our homestead.
There, morals were imparted
Not as laws but manifest,
Were taught to be good stewards
Of the bounties we possessed,
Thanked God how we were blessed.
I contemplate the passing
Of the primacy of home,
Its prominence supplanted
By portfolio syndrome—
We will reap what we have sown.
A house is an investment
But a home has worth unknown,
A priceless cherished asset
Where precious lives are grown—
Everybody needs a home.
