I am a river
a created course of life
ever-flowing
rising falling back and forth
inviting you to hear my unique tales
I was there
when the Israelites
under Joshua
crossed the river
entering the promised land
I was there
when Elijah
crossed the river
with Elisha
in quest for double portion
Of the spirit
of Elijah
Elisha faithfully followed
till separated
by the heavenly chariots
He struck the river open
with the fallen cloak of Elijah
after taken up heaven
strong sign of Elijah’s spirit
rested resolutely on him
I was there
at the baptism
The Father spoke
of His beloved Son
on whom
The Spirit descended
This was where
John the Baptist
immersed the Lord
not for His sins
but the world yet He obeyed
I am Jordan River
I too exist
for a purpose
doing His will
while on earth
My chosen metaphor is a river
providing water
to the trees
that bring forth fruit in season
yet its leaf not wither
Help me to be that River
the River of Life
filled with Your Spirit
and be empowered
to live like a river of life
A vibrant river of Life
that thrives
teeming with Life
flooding the surrounding
parched and dry land
