Topic: Protector (05/16/24)
There was much joy and enthusiasm expressed when Sarah announced there was a baby on the way. How exciting! An explosion of ideas for a Reveal Party and a Baby Shower enhanced the excitement.

I have long yearned to see this happy couple make a deep commitment to God and His plan for their lives. Being in church or a Bible Study group has not been a priority. I immediately began hoping this baby would be the catalyst that would bring about spiritual depth in their lives.

The first ultrasounds went well; they were oohed and awed over at length. Then, we were hit with a devastating blow! The baby was developing well, perfectly formed, except for his little heart. He would need surgery—serious surgery—shortly after birth.

What a myriad of emotions. I needed answers, I wanted to protect the prospective parents, I wanted to defend God, and I wanted to fix things. I lay in bed, tired and weary, but sleep wouldn’t come. “Lord, this can’t be. What is this going to do to this young couple’s faith? This will surely drive them further from You. When they question, what am I going to say to defend Your love and goodness?”

Then I heard an almost audible voice, “Whoa, Girl. Calm down. I’ve got this! Didn’t the Psalmist proclaim that ‘The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer…in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and (strength)…’? (Psalm 18:2 NIV). You don’t have to do anything except trust Me.” I sighed in resignation, and slept in peace.

The little one has arrived and is making strides. But, surgery is imminent. I continue to lean on God’s Word. “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge…” (Psalm 91:4 NIV) What a beautiful picture of our watchful God!

“Father, thank you for being my refuge and strength. Please help me to continue to rest in You, as You care for me and those I love. Amen.”

What powerful scriptures in your piece and such a great real life example of leaning on those promises. Great message. Praying for Sara and her husband and baby. Congratulations on your EC.
