"OK, Aaron, do you have on all of your armor?"
"Of course I do, Mom! I have on the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness. My shoes are on my feet, taking me places to tell people how much Jesus loves them."
"That is great, Aaron. Anything else?"
"Oh, Mom, of course. I have my shield of faith so the enemy can't hit me with those fiery darts and my helmet of salvation that protects my head."
"Wow, you are protecting yourself well, but what is that sword all about?"
He spun around, raised the sword, and crossed it in front of his chest.
"It is the Word of God, and with it, I can chase away all of my enemies."
"Thank you, Aaron, for wearing your armor. You can’t see it, but I am wearing mine too. Isn't God good to give us everything we need to win all our battles over our enemies?"
I marveled at the ingeniousness of the plastic "Whole Armor of God" toy that Aaron had received for his fifth birthday. Its plastic sash, breastplate, shoes, shield, helmet, and sword terrifically illustrate our protection from the Lord, even to a child of five.
This little toy and my child's reaction to it made me think of God's protection in spiritual terms. The Word says,
"Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Ephesians 6:14-17 (NKJV)
The Word of God is a powerful offensive weapon that protects believers in multiple dimensions. Its divine truth combats deception, its promises offer strength, and its teachings provide moral guidance. By internalizing, proclaiming, and living out Scripture, we fortify ourselves against spiritual threats and foster a closer relationship with God.
The Sword (Word of God) is a dynamic force that empowers, transforms, and protects those who wield it with faith and discernment. In the spiritual battles of life, it stands as both a sword to strike against evil and a shield to guard against harm, embodying the profound and enduring power of divine wisdom and truth.
God's Word is divinely inspired and holds immense spiritual authority. It serves as a direct communication from God, providing guidance, wisdom, and truth. As an offensive weapon, it is not about physical combat but spiritual warfare—battling against evil forces, temptation, and falsehoods.
The Word of God reveals divine truths and moral principles that counteract the deceptions and lies of the world. It exposes false teachings and clarifies what is righteous and just, helping believers to discern and uphold the truth.
What an amazing God we serve! His Word is our ultimate protector.
