Death’s grim shadow casts its pall
And fear, in dreadful starkness
Rules our lives since Eden’s fall;
Into this awful blackness
Came as Man, the Lord of all.
The Light of Life’s resplendence
Put the demon hordes to flight
And souls came to repentance
As they turned from dark to light,
No fear of death’s impendence
Or a dark eternal night.
By truth’s illumination
He began His work in me,
Brought the dark to dissipation
As His Spirit set me free,
By new life’s activation
Gave me sight to truly see.
My new-found disposition
Is not something I can hide,
From now on it’s my mission
To shine forth the lamp inside,
It’s now my heart’s commission
To reflect it far and wide.
Christ gave us admonition
That we all be beaming bright;
By inward light’s emission
Confront infernal night—
Our lampstand’s clear transmission
Always puts the dark to flight.
