However, as she became more involved, she began noticing a recurring theme in the teachings: an overwhelming emphasis on God's love and grace. Sermons often spoke of forgiveness and acceptance, but Erin couldn't help but feel that something crucial was missing. The discussions on holiness, repentance, and personal responsibility seemed conspicuously absent.
As she delved deeper into the church's teachings and conversed with fellow members, she realized that this focus on God's love had evolved into what some referred to as "hyper-grace." The concept resonated with many—the idea that God's love was so vast and all-encompassing that it covered every mistake without strongly emphasizing the necessity of personal change and holiness.
Erin felt conflicted. She appreciated the beauty of God's grace but knew from her own studies of the Bible that grace wasn't meant to be a license for complacency or an excuse to overlook the call for righteous living. She wrestled with the dilemma of staying in a community that she felt was out of balance with the teachings of the Bible or seeking another place where she could grow spiritually while embracing both God's love and the requirement for holiness.
She decided to initiate conversations with the church leadership, expressing her concerns with humility and a desire to understand their perspectives. She brought up passages from the Bible that emphasized the importance of holiness and righteous living alongside God's love and grace. Erin hoped for a fruitful dialogue that could encourage a more balanced approach to their teachings.
In the meantime, she continued to study, pray, and seek guidance from trusted mentors and resources outside the church. She sought wisdom from diverse theological perspectives, aiming to deepen her understanding of God's multifaceted nature—His love, His grace, and His call for a life that reflects His character.
Ultimately, Erin remained open to the possibility of effecting change within the church, but she also acknowledged that her spiritual journey might lead her to another community where the teachings aligned more closely with the Bible's teachings. Her priority was to honor God and seek a place where she could grow in faith while embracing both His love and the imperative of holy living.
Erin was wise to dig deeper. She wondered if hyper-grace is a passing fad or if it is the main trend in Christianity today. Whatever the case, she knew that staying true to the whole counsel of God is vitally important as it affects not only her walk with Jesus but that of the many souls God brings into her life. Let’s take a lesson from her and be sure to search the scriptures diligently to not be led astray.

I can completely relate, having quit going to church because of a lack of emphasis on Jesus. AFter consulting strong Christian friends, the consensus was that if I didn't feel I was growing, it was all right to change churches.
