“Hey buddy!”
“Hi Daddy! What does abore mean?”
“Abore?”
“Yeah, you know, the song we sing, Oh come let us abore Him.”
A smile tugged at the corners of daddy's mouth, as he said, “The word is adore, not abore.”
“Oh, what does aDore mean?”
“Well, in this song it means to love and worship.”
“I love God and I worship Him when I sing.”
“Yes, Danny, you do.” Daddy said as he pulled him up on his lap, ruffling his curly blond hair. He held him close for a second. “Danny do you know that there are other ways to adore God?”
“You mean to love Him and worship Him?”
“Yes, that's what I mean.”
“No, I don't know, Daddy. Will you tell me?”
“You can love and worship God by obeying me and Mommy when we tell you to do something, without complaining. You can also adore Him by being nice to your little brother and sister.”
Danny's eyes grew round as saucers. “Really? I thought I could only aDore God by singing to Him.”
“Yes really. There's a verse in the Bible that says to do your work as if you're doing it for God. So anything we do for God is worshiping Him.”
“You mean when I pick up my toys and I have a happy face when I'm doing it, that's worshiping God?!”
“Yes, Danny, that's exactly what I mean.”
“Wow, thanks, Daddy!” He scrambled off of his daddy's lap, and ran from the room, singing, “Oh come let us aDore Him. Oh come let us aDore Him. Oh come let us aDoooore Him, Chriiist, the Lord!”
His daddy smiled and continued working on his sermon, entitled Adoring Christ the Lord.
