My Grace and More Grace for Will

Will’s weathered face creased
into deep trenches of angst
about his job of twenty-three years.
A familiar clenching cruelty of fear
disgruntled in the pit of his stomach.

I am with you always, to the close of the age.

With forthcoming baby, their fifth child,
Cindy is due for caesarean delivery in three weeks.
Their savings haven’t given much adornment
over the simple refinements
in their family life and pleasures.
But those things mattered not much.

I will supply all your needs
I am with you always, to the close of the age.

The darkest night of life—
countless of them to recall—
lures away hope of some favor
of the future that looks bleak and heartless.

I am with you always, to the close of the age.

Will’s weakening resolve,
the disabling rivalry with peace,
the meanness and bullying,
the atrocities of unseen powers
shall come to their end.

I am with you always, to the close of the age.

The present hardship shows no reprieve for Will
from outside forces out of his control
and hope seems gone.
Everywhere fills Will the challenges on every level,
bravely faces tests and trials.
Gilded in armor of truth and grace.

I am with you always, to the close of the age.


I know the Wills of this world,
You might be one, too.
In your fallen condition
has a heart inclined toward evil.
But I have girded you
With the Armor and resources
That you win to succeed in every battle of life.
You are not alone--
not abandoned to the wiles of the enemy.

Return to Me in trust.
Repent.
For I give you grace,
My care for you is unwavering and gentle.

I am with you always, to the close of the age.

How often do we ask, "Where was God when ___________________?"
Christians should never be asking that question. But we still do.

Thank you for your well-written reminder to center our thoughts more on Jesus's work in the background, than on our 'in-our-face' troubles. Because he allows those troubles to teach us perseverance.
