She was cashing her meager pension check
When a robber came rushing through the door
Brandishing a weapon, he began shouting orders
In moments, she was lying prostrate on the floor
The bank security guard was severely pistol-whipped
And was sprawled in a bloody grotesque heap
Whimpering was heard from the frightened tellers
As fear settled in, they began to softly weep
As she lay there she began to urgently pray
Asking God for deliverance and what to do
Into her spirit, the answer so quickly came
Waiting for the right moment would be her clue
In her spirit, she knew when it was time
Rolling over, she painfully got to her knees
The bank robber saw her, came running over
She prayed, “Dear Lord, be with me, please”
“Lady!” he began to shout into her face
“Are you looking for a reason to die?”
“Didn’t I tell you to lie flat on your face?”
“You disobeyed me! Now tell me why!”
“I’m an old lady and it hurts down here”
“My arthritic knees, they rule my life”
“I would much rather face your wrath”
“Than endure another moment of physical strife”
“Lady, I don’t care how bad you hurt”
“Lay back down and do as you were told”
She knew that it was now or never
Mustering her faith, she did something bold
“Mister,” she so softly said, “Jesus loves you”
And then quietly waited to hear his reply
For a moment, he stood absolutely still
From within, he let off an audible sigh
“Lady,” he said, “what did you just say?”
“Jesus loves you,” she again so softly said
She watched a change come over his face
Instead of wrath, she saw uncertainty instead
“Why did you say it?” he tearfully asked
“Because my Jesus, He told me to”
“He knows that you once belonged to Him”
“He wants you to know He still loves you”
“He knows that you are hurt and angry”
“He wants to take away all of your pain”
“For this crime, He will gladly forgive you”
“For you, He has a love with no disdain”
By this time the police had finally arrived
Through the doors, they came bursting through
Instead of a deadly gunfight as expected
They were astonished at what they viewed
They saw a little old lady on her knees
Beside the bank robber, bowed down in prayer
They saw his tears streaming down his face
As he repented, his Savior he sincerely declared
As they were putting him in the handcuffs
She nodded, smiled, and then began to speak
“Son, God will always be with you now”
“Whatever happens, your future will never be bleak
As they were placing him in the squad car
She turned her face upward toward Him
Because her small voice was listened to
His wrath began to diminish and grow dim
Her being obedient to the Father’s prompting
And then approaching him with a small voice
A bank robber was delivered from his wrath
And then ultimately made the eternal right choice
