it’s so easy for me
to complain about things I can’t do
instead of the blessings
that slip off quietly
Instead of grumbling
I want to count my blessings
and to be surprised
by what I have found
more pluses than minuses
Thank God for preserving my life
while millions in the world already perished
providing for my daily needs
food, transport, clean water and electricity
but in many places these are denied
Grateful for the provision of relationships
not lonely or isolated
from family, fellowship and friends
peace that comes from law and order
well-established here
Free from devastating floods and severe weather
thinking about those flood prone areas
and the trails left behind by tornadoes and hurricanes
read in the media or seen from the screen
I count myself extremely blessed
Impressed by the government’s efforts
to contain Covid and Omicron
through vaccination, social distancing, free masks ,
sanitisers, cash and food vouchers etc..,
yet many are denied of these things
I still go to work and keep my job
looking after my wheelchair bound wife
but in many parts of the world
people are not fortunate like me
they wallow in sorrow, hunger and pain
Freedom of movements
going to my favourite cafe or food centre
visit the supermarket or shopping mall,
stroll at the beach
cycling or jogging at the park- all these count
sons and daughters
still go to schools,
colleges or universities unhindered
but many of their counterparts
are greatly affected
Above all
freedom of religion
I dearly cherish
to worship God and to meet others
fellowship in Church or online uninterrupted
Let not the trials and tribulations
eclipse my view of the positives
Help me treasure every moment
spent with friends and loved ones
Of course, my daily walk with You
