In a land where they plait a puss,
Take off in a flying kangaroo,
They know how to cook a burra,
And to make a jumbuck stew.
A new car is called an old ‘en,
A look out’s a cockatoo,
A crocodile’s called Dundee,
And a girl named Jill is a roo.
Cowboys, they go through the ringer,
You can fish for a snag or two,
A sandwich is called a sanga,
Snags go on the bar-b-q.
When someone is dusting the bull,
He’s telling you a pack of lies,
But bull dust is found on the roads,
Every town, well known for its pies.
They all waltz with a Matilda,
To be fair dinkum is true blue,
And when someone just ups and offs,
The galah has gone and shot through.
To empty an out back dunny,
Gives new meaning to portaloo,
Is a man named Wal a bee?
And another named Jack a roo?
Something ridgy-didge, you beauty,
Fair dinkum, real Oz and True Blue,
Jesus is Bruce, a real cobber
Crikey drongo, He died for you.
Strewth, here is a little ripper
Heads up, it's a dead set cooee,
It’s flaming dry out in the bush
Make us rapt, 'Send it down Huey.'

Guide to play on words and Aussie slang:
Plait a puss for platapus
Qantas (the Aussie airline) has a kangaroo as its emblem
Cook a burra for kookaburra
Jumbuck is an Australian term for a male sheep
Old ‘en for Holden (the Aussie car)
A cockatoo is a bird easy to scare and noisy but also Aussie slang for a lookout
‘Crocodile Dundee’ is a famous Aussie fictional character
‘Jill is a roo’ for Jillaroo, (a young female learning the sheep/cattle trade)
Ringer is an Aussie term for a cowboy and is used here as a play on wringer
Snag has the normal meanings, but also a sausage
A sanga is Aussie slang for sandwich
Bulldust is Aussie slang for untruth but also heavy red dust found on outback roads
Competitions are held in Australia to see which town makes the best meat pies
Matilda is a swag (sleeping roll) carried on the shoulder, to waltz with it is to walk carrying it
Fair dinkum and true blue are Aussie terms for genuine
A galah is a type of cockatoo and Aussie slang for a foolish person
An outback dunny is an outside toilet, often just a bucket in a small hut
Portaloo is a portable toilet
‘Wal a bee’ for a wallaby
‘Jack a roo’ for a Jackaroo (a young Aussie male learning the sheep/cattle trade)
Ridgy-didge is something that’s genuine,
Real Oz is true
A Bruce is a true Australian male and a cobber is a real friend
Crikey is an exclamation of surprize and drongo is a fool
Strewth is another exclamation of surprize and a little ripper is something great
Flaming means very and bush is Australian for in the countryside
Heads up means take notice and cooee is a warning call
Rapt means very happy and ‘Send it down, Huey’ is an Aussie term asking God for rain
