so more will benefit from it—
giving away
my camp fees to support
a village church Mission effort
Guide me to something unusual
instead of run-of-the-mill
to satisfy my desires
to placate self
but doing things nobody bothers
Perhaps giving up my seat
to the needy
in a crowded bus or train
when feeling tired and exhausted
and wanting to clinch the solitary space
or forgoing my place
at a super mart to an elderly
just before the checkout counter
to rejoin the queue
may strike others unsmart
Doing something unusual isn’t odd
when it lifts up another’s spirit
cheering up the soul
I remember giving a cough sweet
to one who coughed relentlessly
Youngsters handing out sandwiches
from alley to alley
offering the homeless
food and water
really inspires me
Acts of mercies
sincere smiles, a little kindness
some thoughtfulness
can make life fuller and richer
making the world more homely than before
Set me free
from self-centredness
constantly second guessing
what others’d have thought
strange or normal
Let me light
a tiny candle
and let its warmth
hover
over the world
Isn’t it odd
that the Lord
who gave up His majesty
to take my place
at the cross
