Cecelie’s eyes widened.
“Under the full moon, the father went into the woods to search for her,” Benjamin continued. “They were never found.”
“Scary,” Cecelie whispered.
“That’s not the scariest part,” the older brother added. “When it’s a full moon in August, the father wanders the woods looking for his daughter. He takes every little girl he finds into the woods… she’s never seen again. Nobody remembers his name. They call him The Night Walker.”

Dawna Stumbled as she rushed into the room and turned on the light on the bed stand. “It’s alright, sweetie.” She brushed some strands of curly brown hair from her sister’s face.
“He was…” Cecelie’s breaths were jagged and gasping. “Chasing me.”
“Who was chasing you?” The older girl sat on the edge of the bed.
“The night walker.”
Dawna stared at her sister in confusion. “Who is the night walker?”
“Benjamin said he takes little girls ‘cause he lost his.” The young girl wrapped her arms around her sister. “I don’t want to live in the woods.”
“Why would you think …”
“He’s out there!” Cecelie pointed to the window. “By the shed … I saw him.”
Dawna stepped to the window and looked outside. “Holy cow! There is someone.” A grunt escaped as she struggled to open the window. “Benjamin! This isn’t funny! You better. …”
“What isn’t funny?”
Dawna and Cecelie screamed at the unexpected voice.
Benjamin burst into laughter. “It was just a story.”
“You scared your sister,” Dawna snapped.
“Looks like I scared both of you.” The boy tried to conceal a smirk.
“Don’t tell her those stories. You know her imagination.” Dawna glared at her brother. “And you shouldn’t’ve gone outside.”
“Chill out, Dawna,” Benjamin blurted. “I never went outside.” He glanced at his youngest sister. “Just don’t forget what we or…”
“Wait! You weren’t just out there?” The older sister looked back to the window. “I saw someone … There’s somebody out there.”
The boy darted out of the room.
“It’ll be okay Cecelie,” Dawna said. “Why don’t you come out here and sleep on the couch?”
The young girl followed her sister.
The girls jumped at a sudden clatter. Dawna scampered toward the bedrooms. “Benjamin? Are you alright?” Her younger brother stepped into the hall. “What’s that?”
“It’s my pellet gun,” he said, holding it up by the barrel. “That dude might see it and get scared.”
“Or he might have a real one.” The elder sister grabbed the rifle. “Did you call 911?”
“I was looking for the gun,” Benjamin replied.
“We need to call the cops,” Dawna snapped.
The pair walked to the front of the house. Benjamin paused and peered out a window.
“Where’s the phone?” Dawna tried to hide the frantic sound in her voice.
“I dunno.”
“Benjamin, where’s the phone?” Dawna grabbed the cell phone from her purse.
Cecelie pulled herself deeper into the corner of the sofa.
“Think you’ll have signal?” Benjamin asked. He grabbed a flashlight from a shelf beside the door. “I don’t see anyone.” He started to pull the door open.
“What are you thinking?” Dawna grabbed her brother as she pushed the door. “Don’t go out there.”
“I’m just trying to protect …” The boy turned away from his sister.
“Benjamin,” Dawna whispered. “Please … stay in here and protect us. We’re family. I can’t let you go out there because we protect each other.”
The siblings flinched at a knock on the door.
Cecelie screamed.
The door creaked as it inched open.
Benjamin and Dawna stepped closer to their sister.
“What do you want?” Benjamin demanded.
The visitor pushed the door further open.
“No, no, no.” Cecelie screamed.
Dawna sat beside her frightened sister.
A large figure stood motionless in the doorway. “Ummm,” he uttered. “Did you guys order a pizza?”
“Pizza?” Benjamin queried. He began to laugh.
Dawna exhaled in relief. “Oh, yeah.” She mussed her sister’s hair. “Want some?”
Cecelie nodded.
“Don’t tell mom or dad.” Dawna smiled at her brother. “About the pizza or the story … Deal?”
Cecelie smiled.
