Unknown her name,
Her history
Has been concealed.
We cannot see
Her background,
Past environment,
Her life that changed
With war’s advent.
One thing alone
Is written of her,
One thing
She is commended for:
Far far from home
In distant land
She stood for God,
Maintained her stand ….
Away from home
Captive, alone,
A slave girl served in far-off land
In culture, new,
Is’lated too
From all that she could understand.
But nothing could uproot the seed
Of faith,
Of trust
In One Alone
And in her heathen circumstance
She knew her
God was on the throne.
With cheerful willingness
She served,
A ready hand,
A radiant smile,
And reaching out
To one in pain,
Her timely word
Hit ground fertile.
With truth held fast
In youthful grasp
She reached a family in distress,
And simple word
By others heard
Prepared the road
Where God would bless.
She was a signpost
Clear and bright,
A readable, strong
shining light.
For she was willing
It is true
To speak, then watch
What God could do.
Her master,
Naaman’s, tale is told:
His role, His pride,
His pedigree.
His blighted life
Affected by
Discovery of leprosy.
Yes, all is told of Naaman,
And his reaction to God’s plan,
His yielding to the prophet’s cry
His dip in Jordan
Questioning ‘Why?’
The miracle then,
The cleansing power
Of God upon an ordained hour.
Salvation
On that very day,
All leprosy washed cleaned away.
Yes, Naaman’s story
Of renown
Is all recorded,
Written down
But one God used to
Point the way
Just quietly,
Humbly slips away.
Her name untold,
Her history-
That is concealed
To you and me.
But if we could the curtain draw,
If fuller picture lay in store
We then would see in golden Hand
The name of one who took a stand
And stood for Jesus,
Spoke His Name,
Without desire
For glory’s fame.
She lived, loved, spoke
Of Him she feared
She lived, loved, spoke -
And Heaven cheered.
