Look at them go!
The needle is flying
As she continues to sew.
A tunic for an old woman,
A dress for the widow—
Her craft is a blessing,
It’s not just for show.
Her fingers have stopped,
The needle is slow.
Dorcas is sleeping,
Never again will she sew.
Now the old woman will shiver,
The widow will be cold!
O, Peter, come quickly!
Walk down the row.
Meet the seamstress’s friends,
The saints and the widows.
See all the garments,
The tunics she sewed.
Listen to their stories—
The kindness she showed!
“Out, out with you all!”
Peter says we must go
Away from the dead body,
Devoid of living glow.
But inside he prays,
On his knees, bent down low,
For the charitable seamstress,
Friend of the widow.
And then—O, praise the Lord!—
A transformation starts to show!
She sits up in bed,
Her blood’s begun to flow!
Out she comes,
To her friends, young and old.
What tender embraces,
What happy tears must have flowed!
What chorus of hallelujahs,
What thankfulness to show!
Dorcas is alive!
And soon many will know.
All over Joppa
News of this miracle will go:
That God has raised the seamstress,
Friend of the widow.
