'This dress is too short, the trousers too tight,
that skirt is too flouncy and the blouse not right.'
She glanced at the shoes all lined in a row.
'These are too high, those too flat and so plain.
I couldn't possibly wear any of those all again.'
'No, nothing will do', she said out aloud.
'These hats are old-fashioned, this one's musty and stained,
and that handbag is soiled when it was left in the rain.'
'Oh what will I wear? For there's only one week,
before my dear daughter's married at Mornington Creek?'
So she took herself shopping with her head in a jumble.
Surely the op shop, “Pretty with Pride”,
could solve the dilemma for this mother-of-the-bride.
But no such success was to be found in that place.
The trousers too skinny, the dresses too long,
the skirts were too flowery and the blouses all wrong.
'Oh what will I wear? For there's only one week,
before my dear daughter's married at Mornington Creek?'
She wandered home slowly, dejected and spent.
'It's all just so difficult', she thought out aloud,
'what can I wear that will make me feel proud?'
Where could she go? the question remained.
So back to the cupboard with a motion of gush,
could there be something that she'd missed in her rush?
Then behind an old suitcase she spotted a garment.
A beautiful dress all shimmery and gold,
the perfect adornment for her figure of old.
With joy and excitement she slipped it over her head.
'Yes, it's just what I'll wear, for there's only one week,
before my dear daughter's married at Mornington Creek!'
She twirled around the room in her golden attire.
How had she forgotten it for all these long days?
This dress worth finding, yes, this dress worthy of praise.
