Dave sat down for breakfast.
“How you feeling, love?”
“Pretty rubbish. Didn’t have a good night.”
“Any idea why?” Judy asked.
“Oh, put my foot in it again with the boss. He said I gotta
be much more careful about all the details. Some of the
stuff I’d set out for the extension just wouldn’t work he
said. Even the youngest carpenter could see my mistake.”
“Oh,” Judy whispered.
“Look on his face made we wonder if he’d give me notice.
Wouldn’t be very good if church folk heard about that,
would it?”
Judy tried to find a kind answer.
“Could it be the Lord is saying something to you, my dear?”
“Like what?” Dave asked.
“Well. Difficult one, that. Let me think. Well, you told me
a while ago that you do crosswords and other games on your
work computer?”
“What’s wrong with that, for goodness sake?”
“Didn’t Pastor Jim say something last Sunday about our
being good witnesses for Jesus? At home, yes, but also at
work?”
Dave looked grim.
Judy struggled to say no more.
Breakfast ended, Dave took the Bible from its shelf and
opened it where they left off yesterday.
Beginning to read Isaiah chapter 42, he got to verse 3. “A
bruised reed He will not break.”
“Bruised! That’s exactly how I feel right now. Yes, a
bruised reed.”
Tears trickled down Judy’s cheeks. She could feel her
husband’s feelings.
“But there’s a promise as well,” she said. “‘He will not
break.’ Remember a couple of weeks ago we read about God
needing to discipline us?”
“Yes, I remember. Sort of when He tells us off it’s not
nice, but if we listen to Him and do what He says, He’ll
bring us to peace and happiness.”
“Exactly”, said Judy. “It’s so wonderful to read the Bible
together and learn more about ourselves, isn’t it? And how
our Saviour will do exactly what He promises?”
“A bruised reed He will not break.”

I believe if you had divided up the paragraphs, the story would have been easier to read. There is a preview button before you submit your story that shows how the story will look on the page.
I was unfamiliar with the term, "Pretty rubbish" but I believe it means feeling badly.
But I really did like the message of your story!
Thank you!
