Topic: AUTHORITY (04/14/22)
God the creator of all things gave Adam dominion over every animal that roamed the plains, the fish in the sea, and the birds in the air. He gave him a helper and Adam named her Eve. Their home was a lush garden with fresh vegetables and fruit trees. Clear, cool water sprung from the ground. The couple wanted for nothing.

The only restriction was not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Satan appears and twists what God said around. Driven by pride and greed they ate the fruit. They disobeyed God and committed the first sin. The consequence was every human being born from that day forth was born with a sin nature.

God’s commands are clear. Moses was instructed by the Lord to speak to the rock in front of the assembly and water will pour out. Moses struck the rock twice instead of speaking to the rock as God had commanded. The consequence was Moses would not lead the Israelites into the Promise Land. God is the supreme authority and as His people we are to obey Him to the minute detail.

All sin has consequences beyond the initial wrongdoing. David’s affair with Bathsheba affected David, Uriah, David’s unborn child, his family, the nation, and even his enemies.

All through history pride and greed seem to be the calling cards. Instant gratification overrides patience and common sense. More than ever people are pushing God out and His way of living by filling their lives with earthly gratification and feeding their emotions.

Criticizing, gossiping, and slandering is not a path to success. We are going against what God wants. We are saying God I can handle this.

God gave us the power to choose. We can choose how to eat, pray, live, or anything else. We can make a decision to do life our way or submit to God’s commands. He does not make mistakes. The people in positions that govern over us are there for a reason. As Christians, if we disagree with our elected leaders, we are to pray for them. Pray they seek God for His guidance.

We should also pray for ourselves and search our hearts and follow Paul’s advice in Ephesians 4:31NIV, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” In verse 32 he tells us to replace it with,“Be kind and compassionate and forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” This is not an easy task. We can not do it alone. There is one ultimate ruler we should turn to. An authority that will guide us on the right path. Our job is to listen and obey the Almighty God.

Take your main theme of instant gratification and then build your argument around it. Start with a strong hook to grab the reader's attention. Don't simply tell the reader the Garden of Eden story. Put the reader in the garden with Adam and Eve. Show the tension of instant gratification vs. obedience. Make the reader feel the angst. Make the reader feel the regret of humanity's downfall due to poor choices.

There is so much potential in this. Learn to write active, not passive. Bring the reader to a satisfying conclusion ... there's always hope, joy, peace, forgiveness in God, etc. keep writing!
