We see in the Bible, Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Recently, we took a train trip with AmTrak to the southern California city of San Diego and let someone else do the driving as we enjoyed the scenic views. Also, we met the most interesting people as they travel from all over the country. At the dinning car we are seated in a group of four at a table with total strangers that soon become friends. Many different occupations in life, where they are from and heading, and general discussion is carried on while we await the meals being served on dishes with the AmTrak logo.
At one meal, we met a friendly couple about our age from North Dakota that are traveling the entire country on trains. They describe the small farm town they live in and I mention it sounds like the small country town where our church is located, not far from our farm. He says as a deacon in the church, he has seen people turn to the government for all their needs instead of asking the Lord for his guidance and protection. We discussed the power of prayer and how it has been so important in our lives and as married couples. We were so glad to meet others that put their hope, trust, and faith in the Lord. I was born and raised in Iowa a part of the Church Belt including North Dakota and we have many of the same religious values.
As the train returned in the early morning hours of darkness, the train porter came to our sleeping compartment to pick up the suitcases as at the next stop we would depart the train We passed through the our little country town and the porter said WOW look at that little church all lit up with a white cross shinning in the darkness. We said. "That is our church."
