Number 10 -Zechariah, an Israelite priest was visited by an angel who told him that he and his wife would have a child. Zechariah questioned this holy visitor asking how he could be sure of it because he and his wife were old in age. For his unbelief his voice was taken away until the very day that his child was born. His first words spoken were the child’s name, John. Better known as John the Baptist.
Number 9 -Haman desiring high honors in Persia conjured up a conspiracy to kill not only his nemesis, Mordecai, but all the Israelite people. Because of his plot he was hanged and died on the very gallows that he had built for Mordecai.
Number 8-A rich man asked Jesus what it takes to get to heaven when he found out that he had to give up everything and follow Jesus he turned a walked away.
Number 7- Peter walked with Jesus, saw the many miracles performed by Jesus, walked on water with Jesus and vowed to Jesus he would go to prison and death with him. But, just as predicted, Peter denied Jesus three times.
Number 6- Pharaoh of Egypt was confronted by Moses multiple times about giving the Israelites their freedom. His stubborn refusal brought multiple devastating plagues to his people and his land. After nine, Pharaoh appeared to succumb, but then denied their freedom. The tenth plague killed many Egyptians including Pharaoh’s own son. Then he let the Israelites go.
Number 5 -Twelve leaders, one from each of the Israelite tribes, were charged with surveying their new land. They explored the land of milk and honey promised to them by God. They also saw ‘giant’ people. Upon return to camp, in fear they incited rebellion and in turn God condemned them to 40 years of wandering in the desert and forbade their generation from entering the promised land.
Number 4 - Delilah tried to coerce Sampson to tell her the secret of his strength so he could be defeated. Enemy soldiers were close by waiting for opportunity to defeat Sampson. Three times Sampson fooled her. Tired of her nagging he finally revealed the true secret of his strength and was defeated.
Number 3- After returning from a victorious battle, Jephtha, in his haste made a promise to the Lord to sacrifice the first thing that walked through his front door. It was his daughter.
Number 2 -Adam and Eve lived in the perfect place, were give all of God’s creature to rule over, talked directly with the very God that created them daily. God gave them one simple rule and they didn’t follow it.
And the number one thing in the Bible that makes you facepalm-
Satan was given permission by God to test Job. Satan, sure that Job was only faithful to God because of his rich blessings put Job through horrendous tests including loss of his property, death of all his children and failing health. Through it all Job remained faithful to the Lord God. Satan, to this day, goes to and fro searching for those that he can test.
Over and over again we see in the Bible those people who did not or did listen to God and his holy messengers. We think that if that was us we would have surely done the right thing.
The Bible says, “All scripture is given by inspiration by God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16) and “I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw.” (Proverbs 25:32
This Bible can show us what we are doing wrong, teach us what is right and show us how to live right. Instead of reading and thinking about what we would have done if we were those that lived and were written about, in Christ we have God’s word to teach us and God’s Holy Spirit to help us to live the as God desires.
