Song writers have a way of painting pictures with words; the better the song-writer, the sharper the picture. Throughout the ages, the church has had a wealth of Christian song-writers, from Charles Wesley and Fanny Crosby to more recently people like Graham Kendrick, Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin. But some of the greatest word-painters that ever lived were the Psalmists, and in Psalm 46 we have a masterpiece. It was written by the sons of Korah, so while it is not one of David’s, it is still a classic.
In a cacophony of power, they smatter the psalm with images of tsunamis, earthquakes, national crises and war from beginning to end, but the background of it all is painted with the soothing colours of shalom.
It is almost as if they say, ‘Imagine the most earth-shattering experiences known to mankind, bundle them all together and magnify them and then… just stop. It is okay. The Lord Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge.’
And in verse ten, we have one of the best known highlights of the whole of the Psalms: ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ The command to be still is also translated, ‘Cease striving.’ The picture is not unlike the familiar summer road trip, with the restless children in the back of the car, and the exasperated parents with the inevitable, ‘Stop fidgeting and be quiet!’
It’s not the absence of activity as much as the presence of peace. It is all about knowing that whatever happens, from personal tragedy through to national and international crises, the God who is our refuge is aware of it and is already steps ahead of us and knows the outcome. The call is to believe and receive his all-enveloping peace that goes far beyond our capacity to understand. He is God; He is Lord and He is our refuge. Let’s run to Him; let’s be still and trust Him.

Educational and insightful.

It would be easier to read with content in paragraphs rather than one long one.

I like the connections and examples of today's world; especially the kids in the car.

You entry is full of truth from God's Word. I enjoyed reading it . You did a nice job.

Remember to double check your entry for spacing especially between paragraphs before submitting. Entries are much easier to read with paragraphs in place.
