Pushing the vacuum cleaner with one hand and holding the recorder in the other, she began, "First of all, thank you Lord for these self-propelled contraptions which almost clean by themselves. Okay, let's get down to business. I was stuck trying to figure out how my villain in chapter three could still be a menace in chapter six. How about if he escapes from jail? I could make him a gang member and it's his gang that breaks him free. After all, he knows too much and if he talks then a whole lot of them are going to jail. No wait, that may not work because the other gang members could just kill him off since he knows too much. I do like the idea of them breaking him out of jail though. I'll mull it around a little more. Over and out for now."
Winding up the cord to the vacuum cleaner, Holly opened the closet door and shoved the machine inside. Wiping her hands on her pants she sighed, "Good. Two things accomplished. The carpet's clean and I have a clearer idea who my villain is going to be."
Holly looked outside and saw the mail carrier put several envelopes in the mailbox. "Hmmm, looks interesting," she stated while walking toward the curb.
Turning the envelopes over in her hands, she let out a big whoop. One was from a magazine publisher with a contract inside for a series of articles. In the second envelope was an advanced check for a proposed book idea she had thrown around with her publisher. The third envelope was from her agent with information about the final preparations for her book-signing party at a nation-wide book store.
"Oh, this is a very good day, indeed," she shouted while doing a little jig right there by the mailbox.
Holly decided to pick up a few things at the local market. She and her family would celebrate her good fortunes tonight at the dinner table. Pulling out onto the main street, Holly noticed three ladybugs hanging on for dear life on the windshield of her car. One by one they finally lost the battle and were blown away.
Picking up a tape recorder off the passenger seat, Holly began talking, "I've got too many irons in the fire right now but here's an idea for a new children's book. It's about 10 ladybugs sitting on a tree branch on a very windy day. It will go something like this…Ten little ladybugs a-sittin' on the branch, the wind blew one all the way to the ranch. Nine little ladybugs a-sittin' on a log, the wind blew one all the way to the bog. Eight little ladybugs a-sittin' on the gate…well, you get the idea. I'll work on it once things calm down, possibly in a few months or so. Over and out."
Pushing her grocery cart down the produce aisle, Holly smiled as an elderly couple holding hands walked past her. As she rounded the corner, she looked back and saw them squeezing melons together. Pulling her cart out of the way, Holly grabbed the notebook and pencil she always carried in her purse. Scribbling as fast as she could, she wrote the physical appearances of the elderly couple and their mannerisms. Perfect couple to use in her novel, they would give life and credence to the couple who were robbed by her villain.
Once Holly was home she began preparing an elaborate Italian dinner for her family. Taking her pen and yellow writing pad she always kept on the kitchen table, she began to write down her feelings about this incredible day. "Who knows," she said, "maybe one of these days I'll be able to capture these good feelings again for a story."
"Mom, Mom, oh, Mo-o-o-o-o-o-ther," Kyle called. "Hey, Mom, are you in there somewhere?" he asked while waving his hand in front of her face. "Are you daydreaming or something?"
"What?" Holly asked with a start. Looking down at the frozen pizza in her hand, she was shocked to realize she really had been daydreaming.
"Kyle, would you mind nuking this pizza for you and your brother? I need to run an errand," Holly said while grabbing her purse. "I need to run to the office supply store for a few items."
