It was time.
The fairy princess wove in and out of the trees of the forest.
She soared to the tree tops and waved her wand over them. Bright reds, flaming oranges, deep purple bloomed as the leaves turned colors. This was her favorite part of the year, when the green changed to browns and reds.
A blast of freezing cold air blew on her from behind. She spun in the air to find Frostman, her arch enemy, lurking in the clouds. A grey man, he brought ice and frost in the winter time, but he was too early! It was not time for his work, yet. Frostman was always trying to upstage her. She must send him back.
“Frostman!” She yelled at him. Her red hair blew in her face, and obscured her view for a moment. “Frostman! You go back where you belong! It is not winter, yet!”
Frostman’s smile was chilly as he blew harder. The leaves on the tree behind Enchantra rattled. “You’ll never stop me!” He growled.
“Begone!” Enchantra waved her wand and an orange fire ball flew up and hit the grey man in the clouds. “Begone!”
“Judy!” A voice interrupted the fairy princess’s war cry. “Judy! Sit down, immediately!”
Enchantra/Judy blinked and looked around. She was standing on her school desk, waving a pencil like a wand. She had been daydreaming again.
The other children tittered behind their hands. The teacher shushed them and turned her attention back to Judy who was climbing down from the desk top.
“This is the First Grade, Judy,” The teacher pressed her already thin lips thinner. “The time for daydreaming is over. We are to focus now, understand?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Judy looked down at her desk and opened her book.
The teacher moved to the front of the room and spoke about ‘take-aways and pluses’. Whatever that was.
Enchantra always ushered in the Autumn season and helped the trees with their colors. Now, she was imprisoned in this dungeon with the robot up front to drone on about numbers. Judy looked out the window and wished she were anywhere else.
She picked up her pencil again and Enchantra flew among the desks and out the window.
Back to where she belonged.
“Judy!”
