On the night before he was to complete his mission assignment on earth, Jesus prayed the most beautiful prayer, not only for himself but for his disciples as well. Matter of fact, he included all of us that would ever come to know Him through the message of the disciples and the early church. In this passionate, heartfelt prayer, Jesus cried out to His Father saying, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. John 17:20-21
Can’t you feel the love and compassion in the wording of this plea for us? You see, God wants us to enjoy the same closeness and fellowship with Him and with each other that He enjoys with His Father. I’m talking about a real, personal and intimate relationship—unlike anything you could ever hope to experience without Him. Are you with me?
The first and most important step to creating and building real fellowship with each other is to obtain and maintain a close and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is then and only then that we can experience real community and authentic love and fellowship one with another.
