The cool breeze ran through the hair of portly Sam as he began his morning stroll towards the shopping center. Thoughts buzzed and bugged him. Questions seem unanswered:
“What am I doing here? Why has God made me go so far for my job? Far, far away from my dear girls – my daughters, who need me at home? Why is my wife also made to go so far away? Does God really care for us? Are we really in His will?”
Plagued with doubts and depression, he came back and refreshed himself. As he sat with the Psalms open in front of him, he began to change his mind.
“ Dear Heavenly Father,” he prayed silently as he knelt down, a little later, “ There are so many things so many things Lord, that I need to be thankful for. You alone are my gift giver Lord and to you I offer this meager thanksgiving:
For the fact that I am alive well now;
For the lovely breeze which caressed my brow;
For making me, me;
For all the love with which you died on the cross for me;
For prompting me through the Holy Spirit to accept you;
For the love and care I enjoyed from my Mom;
For the lovely little family you gave me;
For the loving brothers and sisters all around I see;
For the soft voices of the insects and birds;
For the making me praise You with so many words!
For the food and drink, clothes and shelter;
For giving me contentment in the here and now;
For my spouse, children and their love;
For the freedom I have to worship you;
For the inclination you gave me to praise Your Name!
For this that and the other…
I cannot end this list Lord, because all I have and am, is due only to You, to Your Grace and Mercy!”
Sam was rapt in his prayer. The birds hushed their song as if to enable God to listen to Sam’s words. The silence of the morning was pregnant with thanksgiving.

“Hey Sam!” called his colleague Harry, later on that morning. “ How come you are so happy? You are posted so far from home and even your wife is far away. Yet, you seem to have no care at all? How is it Sam?” asked a puzzled Harry.
“Well Harry,” replied Sam patiently, “I know for a fact that I am His child. He will look after me and give me what I need, when I need. I am sure He will give me all my heart’s desires, in His own time. That is enough for me. I spend all my time being thankful to Him. It is a full-time job, as the list seems endless. I really don’t have the time to complain or be sad!”
“ I really envy your faithful and thankful attitude towards life Sam,” said Harry as they got down to begin their work.
