“That was great Kailey. One more segment and your replacement should be here.”
Kailey nodded absently at her boss. Every muscle ached and she longed for a warm bed, but even the fatigue in her body could not suppress her thoughts. She was still trying to process the events of the past 24 hours.
In only one day, nearly every country in the world had faced some disaster. Earthquakes, tornadoes, major storms, even electromagnetic pulses had all converged on one bizarre day. What on earth was happening?
The station had been scrambling to find enough reporters to cover the barrage of events. Kailey had been reporting every few minutes for the entire day.
Alan, one of the cameramen, came over and stood next to the window. “Do you think this really is the end of the world?”
Speculation like this had been flying around the station all day. Kailey nervously ran her finger over the silver coin in her pocket. It had a cross cut out of the center of it and the inscription ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son’ around it’s edges. Her grandmother had given her the coin a few weeks earlier and told Kailey to keep it as a reminder that God loved her too. At the time, it had seemed like just a cute trinket, and she only kept it to remind her of her grandmother. Now, she was not so sure. Maybe there was more to it. She hoped it was not too late to find out.
“I don’t know Alan. What do you know about Jesus?” Her words caused Alan to whip his head around.
“So, you DO think it is the end of the world?” His words were cautious, almost suspicious.
“I really don’t know what is happening, but I do know that this is making me want to find out if there is something out there I missed.” She looked over at her boss, who was signaling her to go back on the air. “Maybe when I leave we could go and see what we can learn.”
Alan looked doubtful. Kailey pulled the coin from her pocket and flipped it to him as she return to her place behind the desk.
“What’s this?”
“A reminder.” Kailey smiled and went back on the air for her last segment.
When she was finished she decided that sleep could wait, she needed to talk to her grandmother. Alan still seemed reluctant, but chose to tag along.
Her grandmother welcomed them in and patiently listened to Kailey’s accounts of the day.
“Why don’t you seem surprised by this Grandma?” From the moment that they walked in Kailey had noticed the old woman was amazingly calm, definitely not like the others she had talked to throughout the strange day.
“It is easy to be calm when you know that all this was destined to happen long ago.” Her matter-of –fact tone got a raised eyebrow from Alan, but Kailey was ready to hear more.
“Do you remember the coin I gave you a few weeks ago?”
“Of course,” Kailey replied.
The saying is just the beginning of the story, Kailey. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…’ That is true and in itself is amazing, but it is the rest of the verse that changes everything. ‘…so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life.’ God has spent thousands of years patiently waiting to fulfill that promise of eternal life, but He wants us all. He is unleashing events that will leave no room for doubt that He is God, and only through the blood of His own Son, Jesus, are we saved.
Kailey felt tears on her cheeks. “Is it really that simple?”
Her grandmother nodded. Alan sat silently flipping the coin over and over in his hand. Finally he spoke, “It’s been right here all this time.”
Grandmother grabbed both their hands and bowed her head to pray. As she finished all of their faces were wet with tears. Suddenly, a bright light filled the room. Puzzled, the group went to the window. The beams of light formed a large cross across the night sky.
They watched and praised God in grateful awe.

Be careful of "it's". With the apostrophe, it always means "it is." The possessive "its" has no apostrophe.
I wonder how it'll really happen--will it be covered on the 6:00 news? It's fun to speculate...
