I seek out to converse with my friend, Christ Jesus, to discuss my frustrations and indiscretions. I go to my favorite place to pray. As I sit underneath the flourishing oak tree, its branches hang low as though they are shielding and nurturing my testy spirit. I look around at the greatness of God's beauty surrounding me. I smell the colorful flowers incredible aroma, wild animals peer curiously at me, tadpoles scribble the gurgling stream, a Robin nurtures her young and a lush backdrop provides me a magnificent unforgettable view.
As I sit here on the rich earth, it is what I vision Heaven will look like. God made every infinitesimal thing perfect and to His liking. There are no mistakes. I envision Jesus in my presence; I feel He is here to listen and to provide me peace and tranquility. He will calm my storm and cease the raging undercurrents. We discuss my woes and misfortunes; and abruptly, I'm reminded of all the wonderful things that have happened to me this week. My friend, Stephanie Jones, had a healthy baby boy. My x-rays came back normal. Mr. Johnson's leg didn't have to be amputated. Joe, my friend, made it home safe and sound from Iraq. My children called me this week to say they appreciate me. My husband showered me with attention and love because he knew I was having a rough week.
I begin to whisper, "Lord, You've provided me a glorious place to live and You've given me a superb life ... I'm ashamed of my childish actions today. I'm offended that I brought such pettiness to You. I pray that you grant me strength, patience and a non-judgmental attitude to overlook my trivial-mindedness. Help me to over-look petty fixations and magnify in me love and the ability to reach out to offer kindness and friendship to others when I'm tempted to lose Your way.
