Have you ever heard that your whole life passes before your eyes before you die? I always thought of it as a brilliant flash right before death. But is it? I wonder. As I have gotten older, I see much of my life that I didn’t know I remembered present itself in the forefront of my brain. Many of the memories are lovely experiences in grade school or high school. I often think of teachers and friends who made their imprint on me. I relive dance recitals and talent shows, but also sad occurrences like the death of my beloved cat.

I remember things I should or should not have done as I grew up. I lament my immaturity as a young adult. It was all about me, always trying to fit in and make a good impression everywhere I went. One sin upon another made my life a complicated mess, and for this, I am genuinely sorry. When I had reached the end of my rope, I hit bottom and had nowhere to turn but to God. I remembered hearing about Jesus in Sunday School and from my parents, but only after crashing did I call on Him to save me.

My early life as a Jesus follower was superb. I was swept off my feet in love with Him, and I let everyone know it. My drinking buddy girlfriends left me, but I gained a whole new family who loved Him too.

Today as I walk with Jesus, I continue to see those flashes of various times in my life, and He soothes my heart, reminding me that He paid the penalty for all of my sins.

So, what does all this mean? Jesus loves me so much that I believe He is healing me of the scars of my past. The life He has given me is new.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

If my current thoughts and remembrances are part of or a way of my life passing before me, it is all okay because my life is His, indeed it is hidden in Him.

“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:3 NKJV)
