Topic: PROMISE (09/02/21)
I recently had a falling out with a good friend over what he perceived was a failure to live up to an obligation. For some time we have met for lunch more or less every other week only broken by the sadness of the viral epidemic that has affected so many things. Recently we have restarted our gathering, but other obligations have also been challenging for my time. I found it necessary to schedule a very important meeting during what he thought of as our regular time and thus conflict resulted. He spoke harshly, though not necessarily wrongly, and it created a divide between us that I found both frustrating and slightly unfair given my circumstances. While I admitted that I had broken our regular meeting rhythm, I did not see it as a breaking of a commitment in the same way that he did.

The Bible is replete with commitments and promises; many of them from God to his children and they mean so much to those of us who have put our trust in him as Lord and savior. We rely on the fact that God does not lie and that as we have entrusted our lives to him, he will do what he says he will. The keeping of a commitment is a reflection of the character of the one who does so and in keeping his promises consistently God shows himself to be all that he claims to be. Many times we are told that if we do something that God promises to respond in a particular way. Faith is very often taking God at his word and living in a manner consistent with that promise believing that in doing so we reflect the heart of God to a world in need. The early followers of Jesus were called Christians because they reflected him in just this way.

Our world is full of broken trust and the wreckage of conflict that is the result. People react in a variety of negative ways when they believe that others have violated a trust or failed to live up to a commitment. I was on the receiving end of such negativity and I felt both disappointed and frustrated as a result. The good news is that my friend came up to me a couple days later, gave me a hug, and reinstated the relationship. While the conflict did occur and we will have to work through it, we did not break relationship as so often happens. We are both followers of Jesus and committed to living in a way that reflects his character. It will always be hard, but also we are assured that it will always be worth it in the end.

How I wished to continue reading a bit more.

Continue honing your skills FW advises, always.
Try to manage large paragraphs to facilitate easier reading.

I think you did a really good job illustrating difficulties that can occur within a relationship.

Although might I suggest a little more showing and less telling.

It adds dimensions to the entry, for instance in the beginning you could have had the dialogue between your friend and yourself from your point of view and then also at the end when he initiated the apology.
