Be Still
I was in a terrible situation; one in which I had never been before. I always had jobs at my finger tips, always worked two jobs and enjoyed doing so and had no difficulty doing them. My health was good, my disposition was good, and I was always happy and smiling; in short life was really good. Then came the bomb blast of my life when I decided to sell my house and move to another state. I did so, bought another house and decided to try my hand with some business. I started something which I was not familiar with. That was a wrong decision; we lost everything in a year and came back empty handed like Naomi of the Old Testament.

By God’s grace we found different jobs again and life went on smoothly for another three years and then came the next blast. My husband had a stroke and had to stop work and we had to vacate the house in which we were staying rent free. It was very hard to find a house with my income alone and we moved back to our own house in the other state as the renter was moving out. I am in this house for almost two years but could not find a job here. Every time I ask God He tells me to be still and wait on Him, it seems like He says, “Just chill out.” He teaches me every day with different examples like the ones below.

Cindy is one of the finest people that I have known. She was always smiling and would go out of her way to help anyone. She was very careful with her diet, her house was always impeccable and she was the perfect picture of health. A few months ago she went out of the country to help a friend to do some shopping for her daughter’s wedding. While she was there she noticed some red patches on her arm. She applied some lotion and ignored it. After coming home she checked with her doctor who told her not to worry about it.

A few days later she developed an irritating cough and lost her appetite. She went to the local drug store and got some good cough syrup recommended by the Chemist. The cough was better for a few days and then it came back with a vengeance. She could not eat or drink anything and the cough was so severe that she had to ask her son to make an emergency appointment with the doctor. Seeing her condition, he admitted her in the hospital and ran some tests. The results were unbelievable - she had the dreaded big C – Cancer of the lungs. What a painful shocking news! All that I could say to her was hold on and trust what it says in Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” What else can you say to one who thinks that death is hiding around the corner and peeking at her?

Tango, my fifteen years old cat did not come for food when the other three came and sat at their usual places in the kitchen. Tango never walks she always runs from one place to the other. I called her but she did not come, so I went to the living room and saw her lying down in front of the TV. I picked her up and put her down before her food bowl but she was not able to stand. She staggered a bit and lay down and ate a little bit. I had to carry her and put in front of the water bowl and she could not stand there also. I panicked because my husband was out of the country for a month and I was alone. I did not have enough money to take her to the doctor and all that I could do was pray. I called my husband and a friend and told them to pray and told myself there is nothing I can do. The only thing to do is to do what it says in Psalms 10:46 or just chill out after you give your burden to the Lord.

Sure enough, the Heavenly Father saw my fear and got Tango moving slowly the next morning. She came back to her normal self in two days! My faith is getting stronger every day. It pays to be still in His presence and trust Him always.

No matter what struggles we go through, we need to trust God to help us. I can relate to working several jobs at a time, having lost a home, and the struggles of owning a business.

Maybe you could explain more how God gave the victory in each situation. I also think you could make a separate story for each one instead of crowding too much into a few words.

So thankful God is working in your life. Keep trusting Him and keep writing. God bless! LaVonne

This story is jam-packed full of information. What challenges you have faced are well worth writing about. I suggest you narrow it down a bit and give the reader smaller bits to process. Keep it up. You have a lot of meaningful stories to share. God Bless you in your writing.
