the color of cherries in a warm baked cherry pie,
marked the passing of her time,
each day it traveled one more mile of holy thought,
across the creamy pages, one by one,
a quiet conversation
between a soul so long devoted
and a soul so long divine.
a red ribbon,
the color of the wine of Sunday morn,
in a tiny, crystal cup,
held in the Sunday morning light,
a quiet communion
between a soul so long searching
and a soul so long found.
a red ribbon,
first draped across the holy words,
then through her lady fingers,
there delicately flowing as if stroked by mother’s love,
the once silent words now become
the whispers of an unseen Love,
then a pause,
a prayerful gaze through the white lace curtained window,
then a peaceful gentle smile
as she smooths the red ribbon upon its newest page,
a book is closed, a book is touched, a book is placed in its waiting place,
knowing that tomorrow will always come.
a red ribbon,
the color of raspberries on the summer vine,
still marks the passing of my time,
now my autumn time,
so filled with distant memories,
of those childhood prayerful moments,
while I turn these last few morning pages
of my mother’s holy book,
in the dawn of one more holy day.
