Wearing a path from his Father
To his friends, carrying the weight
Of the world on his shoulders.
Up and down,
On his knees, he felt disappointment as
His friends’ neglect left him to face
This trial all alone.
Up and down,
Inside his heart he searched,
Knowing the path that would
Lead to peace.
Up and down,
He struggled with his emotions,
As his own humanness felt the dread
Of the sacrifice.
Up and down,
Back and forth, he paced as he awaited
The final answer.
The decision was God’s.
Up and down
The halls of time he searched;
Then he laid aside his own desires
To meet our needs.
Up in Heaven,
The angels breathed a sigh
As Jesus relinquished his own will,
Fully submitting his life to the Father.
The battle was over,
Fought and won that hour in the
Garden of Gethsemane.
