Of precious memories here to stay.
Sharing treasures that we hold
About our lives, both young and old.
How about a childhood tale
Where all around gladness prevailed.
An ocean party in the sun
Where children played till day was done.
A beautiful birthday gift from brother
Exquisite, simply like no other.
Christmas Eve while you’re in bed
Snow just in time for your new sled.
Your nervousness on that first date
Turned to anger, because he’s late.
Then finding there was a reason, too
He brought a special gift for you.
Graduation, now so grown
And feelings that you’re all alone.
But off to college you did go
And found new friends you got to know.
A wedding planned, how time has passed
So many years, gone by so fast.
Then children came, what memories there
God’s gift to you, beyond compare.
Family photos help recall
Our memories, both the big and small.
That generations can look back
And gain the knowledge that they lack.
They will enjoy our memories too
Of earlier days, when skies were blue.
As we grow old, our eyes grow dim
But pictures tell just where we’ve been.
And so they’re passed from year to year
The pictures that we hold so dear.
That family stories will always be
The life-line of our family tree.
Now, some would say, there is just pain
In remembering, nothing to be gained.
Because their pictures seem to tell
A story that says all is well.
But they were posed to simply hide
The truth of pain that did abide.
Everything at the first glance
Looks well, a story to enhance.
Then take a deeper, longer look
Tortured eyes read like a book.
Their “happy” memories were not so
Torment is what those pictures show.
And family photos help recall
Our memories, both the big and small.
That generations can look back
And gain the knowledge that they lack.
They may not enjoy the memories too
The skies for some were never blue.
As we grow old, our eyes grow dim
But pictures tell just where we’ve been.
And so they’re passed from year to year
Pictures some cannot hold dear.
That family stories will sadly be
The life-line of our family tree.
But what is this? New pictures here!
The past is gone, the memories clear.
A new family album has begun
Because God’s victory has been won.
Tortured lives now are redeemed
Family memories have been swept clean.
The memories and pictures, still the same
But no more darkness, no more pain.
What happened to tormented lives?
The truth of Jesus brought blue skies.
Looking back at memories now
Makes me smile, and to Him bow.
For without the memories I lived through
I could not do what He’s asked me to.
Our past is what makes who we are today
With memories to mold us along the way.
And so we all have a family tree
Captured in pictures and in memory.
Whether these pictures bring us sweet joy or pain
If our life-line is Jesus then it’s all just the same!
