“Go quickly,” he tells me. Right. “The business you need to tend to, go and do it.” So I’m going and I’m doing. It was a relief to get out of there, believe me. Nobody knows what I’ve been going through these last months. Nobody has any idea of the pain.
And nobody knows what I'm really doing tonight, either. Not even him. He thinks he knows, but he doesn’t. The others, they don’t have the slightest clue. They’re such sheep. Never think for themselves. They let him do all the thinking for them. No ambition. No desire for the better things of life. I’m glad to be rid of them. All of them.
Maybe they’re content to follow him around from place to place and take orders like the dumb sheep they are. Not me. Not anymore. I’ve had my fill of it. He’s disappointed me too many times. Hurt me too many times.
I thought I had this guy figured out. I thought I knew what he was after. Money. Adulation. Power. It was all there for the taking. And I mean real power. Power over people. He had them mesmerized with his words. I watched it over and over again. They would do anything he wanted them to do. Anything! Thousands and thousands of them. All he had to do was give the word. They were totally under his spell. They wanted him to be their leader. They told him that. Practically begged him. They wanted him to have all their money and their allegiance.
Great, I’m thinking to myself. This is finally going to pay off. Big time. And then he rejects it all. Just turns away from it. Tells the people to go home. Just like that. Tells them that they don’t understand what he’s about.
He had it all at his fingertips and he let it slip through his fingers.
That hurt me. Real deep. Here I am, giving everything I have to help him out. Sacrificing my time and talents. For what? To watch him build up my hopes and then dash them on the rocks? That was the day my eyes were opened. That was the day when I finally came to my senses.
I’m through with it now, I tell you. I’ve had all I’m gonna take. Of him and especially of the others. Stinking sheep! They can have their poverty and their pious righteousness. I see through it now. I can’t believe that I actually was taken in by him once. But he never appreciated me. Never recognized my talents. He led me on, betrayed my trust. That's exactly what he did. And now ...
Well, I’m finally here. Good thing the moon was out to help me see the path. The little walk in the night air has done me good. Cleared my head. I'm already feeling better about things.
Now where are they? This is where we agreed to meet. I know one thing. They better have the money ready. I told them 30 pieces of silver and I won’t settle for one penny less.

My only problem was that you referred to the other believers as "sheep" a few too many times. An effective analogy, but once is all that's needed! 'Nuff said. I loved this piece!
