That word deserves some emphasis, and an exclamation mark ought to do it. It's an unusual concept, in this world where apparently people are working hard to be less, than more. There seems to be a fight on, a fight to prove that you are less than you appear to be. Where did that concept come in? How can Christians put up their own fight, a fight to be more than what we appear to be?
Yes, we all know the story of David. A shepherd boy becomes a King. Isn't there something we can do to emulate this story in modern day life?
This is one rare place in our Christian walk that the world has actually made easier for us, as Christians, to follow the instruct of the Bible. The twisted around, backwards kind of philosophy that the world has incorporated has made it easier for us, as Christians, to stand out as something Great. And, I believe that that's what we're supposed to do, if we are in line with the scripture.
James put it pretty simply.
James 4:17 says, "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. "1
I don't think our liberality in Christ justifies many of the things that we, as Christians, tend to overlook. First off, we're not to overlook sin. Now there's an opportunity to be great! Point out that blatant sin, and turn a sinner from death to life.
How it is that we have allowed the less is more concept to dilute our Christian thinking is unfathomable. The main thing that we are to be about is caring! Less is more is all about a hands-off attitude. That pretty much steps right in the way of caring about a lost world. It seems that we have annihilated good old Christian common-sense. We don't have the license to ignore Christian basics because we think we know something bigger and better! This truly is common-sense, do good and don't sin.
In this sin ridden world, to do good simply is great.
To be more. To love more. To honor Christ more. To emulate the shepherd's heart more, is to become a King.
The only less that we need in our Christian walk, is sin.
1. James 4:17 (NAS)
