The Dwelling Place of God

I John 4:15-16- “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”

I John 2:27- “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”

The Holy Spirit is God’s presence dwelling within and among us. Isaiah chapter 33 verse 21 describes God’s presence within us as a place of broad rivers and streams. “But there the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; where in shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby,” (Isaiah 33:21). As a place of broad rivers and streams, Christ is able to broadly hold many within his hand. As a place of broad rivers and streams, Christ is our physical and spiritual source of nourishment, our peace, our protection, our salvation, and our rest from spiritual and physical warfare.

The presence of God’s rivers (God’s Holy Spirit) within us assures us that no war ships or galleys will enter or will attack us spiritually or physically; when we enter the New Jerusalem, (the Promised Land), in that great day of eternal salvation. God promises us peace and a rest from spiritual and physical warfare in that holy city of God, that New Jerusalem. God’s presence is a source of infinite protection.

The Bible says those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified,” (John 7: 37-39).

The Holy Spirit is rivers of living waters. The Holy Spirit is a source of new life and new beginnings. The Holy Spirit is representation of God’s power to quench all spiritual thirst especially those who thirst after righteousness. Christ is our righteousness. We must be thirsty for Christ (God and his word). There is life in the waters that flow from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is that river whose streams flow through the city of God; the New Jerusalem. “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most high,” (Psalms 46: 4). God’s presence dwells within the holy city, the holy tabernacles of God. “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations,” (Revelation 22: 1-2).

All born again believers have this river of waters (The Holy Spirit) (God’s presence) residing within us. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you,” (John 14: 16-17).

Isaiah 43 verses 18-20, promise new life to believers upon the reception of God’s Holy Spirit. God’s Holy Spirit functions as rivers of new life and new birth within the hearts of believers. God creates rivers of waters in the deserts of our hearts. We will never spiritually thirst again when we drink of these waters. “And they did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ,” (I Corinthians 10: 4). Christ’s blood symbolizes that spiritual drink we all must drink of to inherit life everlasting.
