The Spirit of The Almighty: Power

2 Timothy 1:7- “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Genesis 1:26- “And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”

According to Merriam-Webster.com, to have dominion means to have “controlling power or influence over others.” From the beginning of creation our heavenly Father, has given us the spirit of power over all the earth and over everything within the earth. Jesus promised to give his disciples the Holy Spirit upon his return to the Father after his resurrection from the dead. The Holy Spirit is a spirit of power. “And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye endued with power from on high,” (Luke 24: 49). “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth,” (Acts 1:8).

The promise of the Holy Spirit was not just for the apostles, but to all those that believe in Christ Jesus, in his death, and resurrection from the dead. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost,” (Acts 2:38). “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls,” (Acts 2:41). The people of Samaria received the word of God, just like those in Jerusalem. “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women,” (Acts 8: 12).

“For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost,” (Acts 8: 16-17). The Holy Ghost is a free gift from God given upon acceptance and confession of Christ and sin, repentance of sins, forgiveness of sins, and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. It cannot be bought with money and it cannot be earned through good works. “And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought the gift of God may be purchased with money,” (Acts 8: 18-20).

In the New Testament, Jesus also gave his disciples a spirit of power for their ministries upon the earth. “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coasts apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them,” (Luke 9: 1-5).

The apostles didn’t rely on fancy speeches to disciple and bring others to Christ into the kingdom of God. They taught as they were led by the Holy Spirit. “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God,” (I Corinthians 2: 4-5).

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power,” (I Corinthians 4: 20). We should pray that God gives us this spirit of power, the spirit of the Holy Ghost. “And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge,” (2 Peter 1:5). There is power in the knowledge of Christ.

This article has a lot of great truths and Scripture. It would make a good Bible study for sure.
It would have been even better to have included an example of a modern day situration where these principle in your life or the life of someone else as well.

You picked some great Scripture to showcase in your article. Try not to have more Bible verses and the dictionary than original words. Instead consider picking one or two and expand on those, including what they mean to you or how you've been impacted by them. You definitely had the right topic in your selection.
