You truly have a captivating story.
One thing that would have helped me is if you told me where this story was taking place. City? Town? Country?
Some of the phrases are unclear to me - if I knew where the story was I think it would make it clearer.

Your point is well taken.
Warming the pews comfort some but it won't ever start a fire.
And, if we have a heart desire for reaching others for Christ God will give, even the most introverted of us, the boldness we need to step out in faith and share Chist.
This is a great story that I think many people can relate to. You pulled me in right away. One thing I noticed is the dialog didn't feel like teens talking in a cafeteria. Don't be afraid to use incomplete sentences, slang, contractions, and short sentences in dialog. Adding some body language like eye rolling, nudging a friend, furrowed eyebrows can help paint a great picture too. I really appreciated two different meanings of the topic in your story. With some tweaking, I think this would be great for a Sunday school handout. You've a great message and definitely wrote on topic.
