In the early Bible times, breaks are called sabbaticals. It comes from the word Sabbath, meaning a day of rest, sabbatical meaning a period of time, usually meaning weeks or months or years of rest or vacation. Sabbaticals are in place today in churches for their pastors. Churches customarily give their pastors sabbaticals, like a month off to use for their time plus to give them some much-needed rest.
The second of the types of breaks, are special days that come each year, which are holidays. These holidays come from in the Bible, and our churches use to call them Holy Days in the early days of the Church history. There were seven Holy days back at the beginning of Bible times; some of them that are still celebrated which are Passover, Feast of Unleaven Bread, Feast of Giving, Trumpets, Atonement, Feast of Tabernacles and the Last Great Day. Some of the days we celebrate now are Good Friday, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas just to name a few. Among the early believers, they were strict on keeping the Holy Days. They felt as if it was a sin that was punishable to do any work so ever on these days.
The third type of break is each week is the Lords day. It is called the Sabbath, meaning the day of rest. It falls on the first day of the week. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth in six days. “On the seventh day God ended his work which He had made; He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.” Gen.2:2-3 KJV. In the early Bible times, there was a law that no one should labor on the Sabbath. You would be admonished if you work up a sweat on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was worshiped in a respectable Christian manner.
The last but most important type of break is, when we sleep at night. God gave us night to recharge our battery. It is rest from the day’s actives. It gives us a chance to regroup and rest our minds and our bodies. Without this rest we just could not go on with our duties. Our bodies just cannot take being on the go twenty-four hours non-stop. If we did not have these breaks, our bodies would break.
For the very reason of taken a breather, we need our sleep at nights, for relaxation, so put your feet up and take a load off you mind and enjoy the night! On Sunday, we need our Sabbath for recreation from going during the week. Find time-out and go to Church. In the summer we need our vacations for respite to take some time for ourselves. Now take a breather and enjoy God’s creations.
