Peace, A Piece of God’s Armour

Ephesians 6: 13-15- “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”

Galatians 5:22- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”

Peace is one piece of God’s armour that every Christian is supposed to spiritually put on, on a daily basis. Everyday as a Christian, I must put on my shoes of peace. I must put on Christ. “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lust thereof,” (Romans 13:14). For Christ is the Prince of Peace, (Isaiah 9:6). We must walk in peace with ourselves and other people. The opposite of peace is chaos, disorder, war, fear, anxiety, worry, and faithlessness. To have peace means to have a tranquil state of mind, body, and spirit. To have peace means to walk in order/stability, to walk in faith, and to walk in love. In second Thessalonians chapter 3 verse 6-7, the Apostle Paul, urges the Church of Thessalonica, to walk in peace and to avoid being spiritually involved with others who walk in disorder, which is contrary to the peace God wants all of us to have. In these verses, the Apostle Paul is urging the Church of Thessalonica, to follow his and the other disciples; examples of walking in peace. Peace is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Along with his Holy Spirit, Jesus gave us born again believers the gift of peace. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,” (John 14:27).

In this chaotic world today, we are in desperate need of God’s peace and more of God’s peace. With the COVID 19 pandemic, many of us were initially frightened by the rapid spread of this set of viruses throughout the world. With all the panic on the news it is no wonder that some of us started to live in fear and worry. Our health leaders were even anxious over the fact that many could lose their lives before a vaccine/vaccines were developed to slow the progression of this terrible pandemic. Thank God for his everlasting and truthful word. For God said in his promise, “If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land,” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Our country, The United States of America, has always been a Christian country since the establishment of the colonies. God’s word is true. Today, three years later (since the start of the pandemic), we have several vaccines available to prevent the spread of the COVID 19 virus in our country. God is truly good and a God of his word.

Moreover, to walk in peace means to walk by Faith. “For we walk by faith, not by sight,” (2 Corinthians 5:7). “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him,” (Hebrews 11:6). “Now the just shall live by faith,” (Hebrews 10:38). However, the Bible tells us faith alone, is not enough. “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead being alone,” (James 2:17). “Then said they unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” (John 6:28). “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent,” (John 6:29). I Corinthians 12: verses 27-28, lists types of works Christians can do as members of the body of Christ. These works are gifts of the Holy Spirit.

To walk in peace means to walk in love and have faith. Walking in love is yet our major work within the Kingdom of God. For “faith worketh by love,” (Galatians 5:6).

You made a good point that peace is a piece of God's armor. It's always good to get scripture out to the public, but your message to me got lost in all the scripture references. I understand the need for definitions, but some people would be insulted by it. Keep writing.

I really enjoyed the part about Covid. You could have made it even more central to the topic by showing how people disagreed causing the opposite of peace and how not just one shot was enough of a piece of the puzzle to beat it. People needed several shots and boosters. A sad fact that someone told me when I started is people will skip over articles that start with Scripture. It's sad, but definitely true. Instead, I'd urge you to pull the reader in with the Covid dilemma then introduce just one or two verses that make your point. It feels less overwhelming, especially to new Christians. And if you just focus on one or two verses, you can really expand on the meaning and give examples of how it fits into today's world. You did a great job of writing on topic. You also really know the Bible and I can feel your passion to spread that word to others too. Keep writing.

I also love your title! It is crazy that so many of us have the same reaction to use less scripture, I hesitate to even echo the sentiment. But I do see the point. My husband is a preacher and I often remind him to narrow down to one point. Your title is a great point. The rest of this could be three more articles. Hone in on one strong thought next time. That being said, I loved to see the scripture and your discussion of it!
