She often hid in the bungalow by the river especially during times of stress. For, she was the Bursar at the local community college in the bustling city of Anchorage, Maine. On her days in the bungalow she enjoyed going out into the beautiful green meadow to pick the yellow buttercups that grew there. She would string the flowers together to make a buttercup wreath that she hung outside on the front door of her bungalow. She would also put some of the buttercups in a vase on the table in her kitchen. They were what she needed to brighten the room. For buttercups is one of her favorites: the pink rose being her favorite. After picking flowers she would go down to the warm river and soak. The waters came just to the bottom of her bust. The waters were deep enough to drown her, if she didn’t know how to swim. Yet, she was an excellent swimmer. This was her first day of pleasure out of seven at the bungalow.
She went camping on the second day of her seven day sabbatical to the bungalow by the river. She went camping to become more in sync with nature. Getting close to nature, and letting her know thee by name was truly a spiritual experience for her. For, she believed that the love of God, our Creator, could be found in all things beautiful and in all things ugly, within the earth. For with beauty comes ugly. Just like with life comes death. In Christianity, with Jesus Christ, we gain eternal life through the death of the old man, which was full of sin. Camping was a way of rebirthing her inspirations for the creativity in her writings. For, she was a poet by nature and a writer by birth.
On day three, of her sabbatical, she would go fishing. She fished like the disciples fished in Matthew chapter four, verse nineteen. Her fishing involved first, going house to house handing out copies of the New Testament of the Holy Bible to those in the town of Savannah. She would purchase 100 copies of the New Testament, King James Version, of the Bible, from the Bible Society, in her home city, of Anchorage, Maine. The Savannah countryside was only twenty one miles from Anchorage. Along with purchasing the bibles she would make her 500 dollar yearly contribution to the Bible Society, as well. After fishing for souls she would literally go fishing down the river. She mostly caught catfish and yellow perch. Catfish was her favorite. She would kill, skin, and clean the fish and fry it for the fourth day of her sabbatical.
On the fourth day, of her sabbatical, she held a fish fry for the neighborhood. In the Savannah countryside you had plenty of one story bungalow houses spread several feet apart. She had space to breathe and do as she wished in her bungalow, without disturbing the peace of others. She used one of the fancy large restaurant style deep fryers to fry the fresh catfishes and yellow perches she had caught on day three. There was plenty of fish to go around for everyone. This was the largest fish fry she had held in three years, with fifteen people in attendance.
On the fifth day, of her sabbatical, she would go on a nature walk of about seven miles. She would go on this walk alone. She would bring her digital camera to take pictures of the beautiful scenery of the elegant Savannah countryside. She had gotten a magnificent picture of the grassy landscape overgrown with black–eyed susans and wild daisies.
On the sixth day, of her sabbatical, she would go to the cinema in town and watch one of the spring plays. This year’s spring play, that was showing was entitled, The Handmaid and the Butcher, an Unlikely Romance.
On the seventh and last day, of her sabbatical, you guessed it: she would attend morning church services, at Savannah’s Church of God in Christ. It was here she would give her annual benevolent offering of seven hundred dollars to the church fund. Part of the fund was used to fund research and pay the doctor bills of children who were patients at Savannah’s Cancer Center.
Overall, she enjoyed these days especially in late spring and summer. These days were what she needed to relax and unwind. They were what she needed to renew herself for battle.
