In Charge

The main road was dead straight for about 2 miles. Though my old van was legally limited to 40 miles per hour, the temptation to exceed that restriction was difficult to resist on this lovely stretch of road. And anyway there were unlikely to be any police about at this time of day.
However, ‘careful’ driver though I was, I foolishly assumed every other driver was as ‘careful’ as I was. I saw the road signs telling me that I was approaching a minor crossroads. I assumed any driver crossing the main road would be as ‘careful’ as I was, so I didn’t reduce my speed in the slightest.

Oh no! The car which had stopped at the white lines of the minor road suddenly lurched across in front of me. Worse than that, its learner driver came to a sudden standstill on the main road right in front of me!
Frantically I swerved behind it and shot up over a pile of gravel on the verge and into a hedge.
My van battery lay on top of the folded bonnet, and other items were in disarray. Thankfully, having replaced the battery etc., I was able to reverse onto the road again.
I think I was in charge again, a bit more carefully this time - and sticking to my van’s speed limit!

I’m very grateful to the Lord that even then, when I was still not saved, he was managing everything for me!

I'm a firm believer in God assisting us at all times, especially when we are driving! I have noticed that delays (flat tire, etc.) can prevent us from having far more serious consequences "down the road." Thank you for sharing!

I think every driver relates to the temptation to speed. Saying the van's speed was limited, instead of the driver's, caused me to stumble reading that line.
A little rework here would help the reader. I liked the conclusion inferring the driver is now a believer. Have fun with your next submission.
