So many things about my life have been severely changed.
I ran and played long and hard during my youth for what it is worth,
And my body over many months and years has been rearranged.
Now there are lines and creases that run across my hands and face,
And my lifestyle once so busy and frantic is now very docile.
The wrinkles of time quite frankly have invaded my personal space,
And my eyes in the mirror say, “Do I look like a fossil?”
I know that time has flown, and I’ve wondered how it has all past,
Memories of flexibility and agility keep flooding my thoughts.
Sometimes I deny the future when I thought my body would last,
Then one old creak of my ancient bones says, “Girl, you’re shot!”
I’ll keep on going, to keep my heart beating, and my blood flowing,
The good Lord knows just what I need each day to make it through.
My mind says, “Have common sense even though your age is growing,
Even fossils have some purpose for each day, this is true.
