When the earth was without form and void, a storm was already brewing. God had created holy angels who worshipped Him continually before His throne in heaven. Lucifer was the most beautiful of these, in fact he was so beautiful that he decided he wanted not only to be like God, he wanted to overtake Him and proclaim himself to be the most high.

God created the earth and populated it with all sorts of life, including His crown creations: man and woman. These two were made in His image and that made Lucifer, now called satan, angry and jealous. He hated them from the beginning. He decided to deceive them so that they would rebel against God’s one requirement. If he could get them to disobey, they would forfeit their God-given rulership of the earth and he would rule it instead. He did it. When the man and the woman (Adam and Eve) sinned, they lost fellowship with God and tried to hide from Him. Sin entered the world and has been passed on to every human being since.

In a world ruled by satan, the people share the nature of satan. Prideful, lustful, greedy for power and control, they hate God’s people: those of us who are Jewish and those of us who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus. They want to wipe Israel off the map, and they want to destroy Christ followers. It is the same thing today: the fight of good vs evil.

“Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
‘Let us break their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.’”
Psalm 2:1-3 (NKJV)

Further reading in this Psalm says that God laughs at them because their plans will come to nothing. Rather, His Anointed One will once again acquire the nations. That fact deserves a “hallelujah”!

These are definitely difficult times, but we must remain fearless as we trust in God’s love and protection. Jesus is the Name above any other name.
