With living a lifestyle consumed with procrastination.
Taking care of things tomorrow is the motto by which they live.
“It can always wait one more day!” is the reason they give.
How crazy must their brain be wired!
Their constant excuses just make me tired!
Don’t they understand how much better life would be
If they accepted the truth that I can clearly see?
No more staying up to the wee hours of the morning
For not heeding the many deadline warnings.
Or begging forgiveness for once again being behind
When that promise given had simply left their mind.
Why can’t they embrace completing a task in a timely manner?
Is it really that difficult to be a bit of a planner?
Who wouldn’t want to be free to have more fun
Being satisfied in getting this one job done?
Are they just lazy with a work ethic of a child?
Or are their many thoughts too scattered and wild?
Maybe they are delusional hoping someone else will step in
And get the job done singing a song with a grin!
Surely they are not blind to the stress they incur
When their to-do list grows into a bit of a blur
And sweat puddles up on their brow waiting to release
As they question why they don’t feel at peace!
I could speak into their life if only they would hear
How to avoid panic, frustration and fear
By making a list and checking it twice
Dodging the pain of the procrastinator’s price.
The next step is as simple as the first
Though I know it is the one thing they dread the worst!
Just do the task, crossing it off once complete,
They will feel like a hero with this one little feat!
The ease of this plan is beyond belief
Surrendering to it eliminates a lifetime of grief
Yet, it falls on deaf ears most of the time
Because the “on-time” mountain is too challenging to climb!
I will never understand the mentality of delay
And I know my words simply fail to sway.
My soapbox is worn from continual use
I guess it is time I just call a truce.
I must think of how to accept those caught in this trap,
Who find solace in a procrastinator’s wrap,
To respect their lack of shame and sorrow
But, I think I can wait and do this tomorrow!

Honestly, I found this piece delightful. I'm no expert on poetry, but I thought the pace, the phrasing and the rhythm were all very good. It was so easy to read and I found myself flying through effortlessly (which is not always easy for me with poems). I often struggle reading them and will frequently give up before the end of the first stanza, especially if I'm having to think too much about what each line is trying to say. The best part of this piece is that it flowed so well with the meaning coming across easily and pointedly at the same time.
Really nice work!
